Plantar Fasciitis Night Splints
Night splints are a regularly prescribed treatment option for plantar fasciitis. This type of orthopedic foot brace provides a mild and steady stretch to the plantar fascia. These foot and ankle braces should be worn while sleeping. Night splints are designed to reduce or eliminate the heel pain commonly felt by those who have plantar fasciitis. The most common type of heel pain is plantar fasciitis. The condition presents when the plantar fascia (a long ligament under the foot) tears. This tear can result in swelling and pain. The heel pain is often described as a burning sensation, ache, or stabbing type of pain. The discomfort is common in the morning because the ligament gets tight while at rest. Once the ligament is stretched and walked upon the pain usually gets lets noticeable. However the heel pain can return with excessive physical exercise or activity. Plantar Fasciitis can be caused by several factors. Over doing it with strenuous exercise is a regular culprit - athletes get it a lot. Bad shoes, arthritis, flat feet, getting older, high arches, and diabetes are frequent causes as well.
